Lumber Fence Verification

The Fence Verification Camera system detects and measures the actual board edge and compares it to the target fence location for each individual board. The accuracy of the fence is monitored to ensure the proper alignment of the lumber for downstream sawing or other operations. Live and historical results are displayed on the HMI.

Step Feeder Gap Control

Log detection, measurement and gap control are all optimized using step feeder cameras and programs integrated by AMS. Maximize your efficiency and production with the precise timing created by this system. The camera detects the log on the belt as well as measures the next one to be loaded onto the belt at the ideal time. Using vision to measure the position of the log has proved to be much more robust than typical laser measurement systems and has been demonstrated both indoors and outdoors at various sawmills.

Lug Loader Backlog Control

Backlog control using discrete photo eyes or large analog light arrays can quickly become expensive as the size of the detection window increases. Using a camera to measure backlog, high resolution is easily achieved over a large area. With an accurate measurement of backlog available to the PLC, infeed and lug chain speeds can be varied to achieve optimal backlog pressure and maximize production at the lug loader.

Saw-Cut Detection System

Placed just downstream of a trimmer, the Saw-Cut Detection system ensures that the faces of boards coming out of the trimmer are free of visible saw-cuts. The system quickly identifies the board and checks its face along the saw-lines. Slow trimsaws can cause degradation in lumber quality, and because of the high speed of the line, many boards may be effected before the errors are noticed. The Saw-Cut Detection system warns the operator via an HMI if trimmer errors are detected, and stops the line if errors persist.
